Now is the winter of our discontent

January 18th, 2009

Well I have been trying to get around to actually writing posts on this blog but apparently I have failed miserably.  So with usual fashion I shall blame it all on the holidays.  Read more…

Oh there will be a T-shirt

November 24th, 2008

Over the holiday I was able to spend some time with my mother and sister’s family for Thankgiving.  Its a low key event except for the screaming kids.  The over the table conversations are generally asking how other people in the family are or sibling mocking but if you listen hard enough you will eventually hear one of my Mother’s nuggets of wisdom.  Over the years I have compiled a list somewhere, which I really do need to find, that should go on a T-shirt.  Read more…

Idle Hands

November 18th, 2008

I’m not a “works with his hands” type of guy.  Building things like bookcases, pre-made of course, take me all afternoon sometimes. I set out on Sunday to replace my tub’s spout.  Over the years it has been encrusted with hard water and lime build up causing the lever that forces the water up to the shower to leak heavily.  The shower works, but the spout puts out more water then the drain can take so by the time I’m finish in the shower there is about an inch of water in the tub.  I set out, unscrewing the spout and taking it with me to the local Home Depot. The Hunt

November 10th, 2008

As I arrived home I noticed my next door neighbor coming out of the woods behind the house and asked him how his hunt went.  He replied that he didn’t see anything today and would try again tomorrow morning.  I asked him how he hunts, he told me “Well I have a perch on a tree with some clear fields of fire and put out bait to lure my prey close enough to make the kill”  I told him he was a camper and it was a lame way of hunting.

“How do you hunt then?”  Well I said “I usually sneak up to my prey either while they are sleeping or distracted and stab it with my knife.”  He thought about it and mentioned that single knife wound wouldn’t bring a full size deer down unless you are going to wrestle it down too.  “Oh, you are talking about hunting animals… awkward.” Then I walked inside the house.

Akihabara

October 30th, 2008

Akihabara: The anime and electronic section of Tokyo.  Supposed to be the place to go to get discounts on anything electronic and be amazed with the lights and sounds of anime everywhere.  I got to say I was a bit disappointed.  Don’t get me wrong, I was amazed with all the sights and sounds.  Read more…

A day in the life of.

October 29th, 2008

Everyone is bowing to everyone for every reason here in the hotel reception; if I didn’t know better I would swear everyone was having a seizure.  Either that or I was at a bobble head convention.  The staff was very eager to help everyone; you make eye contact with almost a person and they would rush over to ask if I need any help.  Finally in my hotel room and the view is amazing.  I look down to a blur of neon lights and big screen TVs that would see in Times Square or Piccadilly Circus.  Across from me looking down is an indoor soccer field on a rooftop, with a game going on, how cool is that? Business class to Tokyo

October 27th, 2008

So after my experiences with the flight to the UK I was begging my boss for an upgrade to business class to Tokyo.  He told me get a quote and I will ask if I can get it approved, something about being such a long flight it might be in corporate policy to allow that.  So I got my quotes and was shocked.  Read more…

London Trip

October 13th, 2008

So you went to the UK and didn’t write anything, why not?  Well the answer is basically I flew in worked, went to bed, worked, went to bed for 5 out of the 6 days I was there.  I actually went into London very briefly on a spur of the moment.  Read more…

For the love of Extreme.

September 28th, 2008

So here I am 3:30 in the morning with my mind going a million miles an hour.  I can’t sleep.  I have a big project coming up replacing switches and completely revamping the site.  The branch office was built for a 20 user site and now it will host a training center, a demo/sales center and will have a customer support center.  Affectively increasing the size of the office by five times with further plans to expand the office next year.  I have a chance to recreate this site using available best practices and adding some real security.  Read more…
